A scale and polish is recommended at regular intervals to remove deposits of plaque and tartar, and to smooth out the tooth surface. Polishing removes stains leaving teeth looking clean and bright. Minor imperfections and patches of rough texture on the teeth are smoothed away to protect against plaque build up.

Professional cleaning is an addition to good daily oral health regimes, and should not replace twice daily brushing with a fluoride toothpaste.
